Avitas Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Here is an interesting find, a ww1 relic helmet done up in Bavarian colours and decals in the 1930's as either a parade piece, or more likely, a display piece for the mantle or something. It has the same repair paper mache as used on 30's German toys so that is some evidence on the time frame. If anyone knows for certain this type of stahlhelm was used for please share your info. Here is the first pics. Thanks,Pat
Avitas Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 And finally, the close-up of the Bavarian decal, which I believe is from the 30's.Thanks for any and all correspondence!Pat
speedytop Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hi Pat,sorry, but I think, this Bavarian decal is at the earliest from 1950.Please see here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Bavariaand here:http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayerisches_StaatswappenRegardsUwe
Avitas Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Pretty sure it's paper mache, but not 100% certain.Pat
Fritz die Spinne Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Could be a heavy Gesso, which is the type of coating used on smoothing out wood and canvas for dolls and artowrk. Looks like it was found and done up decades after the war based on the damage and inside.
