jshorter Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hi Everyone!Quick question about the Prussian Landwehr during WWI. I would have assumed that all of them would have been in combat during WWI, but I may be wrong. The reason I ask is I came upon this bar and I was wondering if it had the correct Cross of Honor of the World War? It is very difficult to tell if it is a next-of-kin or non-combatant's metal from the photo, but the ribbon is for a combatant's medal. What does anyone think? Thanks!Jason
Beau Newman Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 The ribbon is correct for either the combatant's or non-combatant's cross, both of which were bronzed. Only the blackened next of kin cross used a different ribbon, similar to the Franco-Prussian non-combatant's ribbon. The LS medal was for either Reserve or Landwehr service, which could have ranged from front line service in a reserve unit to home guard service in the Landwehr. Even some regular army soldiers received the non-combatant's cross.
saschaw Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I don't see any problems with this bar... and the LD2 is a quite interresting over-sized one.
dond Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I'm just trying to imagine what the guy did to get only these 2 awards. Actually he got no awards if you think about it.
