FrontlineAntiques Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Evening chapsI picked this up this morning at a carboot. Very inexpensive, but it was shiny and caught my eye. Obviously it is a modern repro, but of what??Thanks Dan
Tom Y Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 That's the Hungarian Holy Crown of St. Stephen with the cross straightened so if not a pure fantasy piece it's a liberal interpretation of a Hungarian award. Seems to me the swords would be redundant, as the wreath signifies a war decoration.Purty li'l thing, though.
Guest Rick Research Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Plastenamel and all...no Hungarian would have ever unbent the cross on top of the crown, which was bent in some medieval adventure or other (I've forgotten) like being smuggled out through enemy lines in a wagon full of turnips or something. What's the back look like?
FrontlineAntiques Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 What's the back look like?Just for you Rick :jumping:
Guest Rick Research Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 :Cat-Scratch: So it can't even be pinned onto anything! One can only wonder at the decision making processes of Naughty Persons as they decide what is "worth" doing... BADLY! :cheeky:
Henry 24th Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Here is an original for comparison. Bent cross and all, enjoy.Henry
FrontlineAntiques Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 That is a wonderful looking piece. Thanks for posting!
