paddywhack Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 saw this on on WAF and i'm not so sure about it! It seems too clean- the placement of ribbons seems odd too, looks like the last two were added as an afterthought at the end! Never heard of a person breaking off the Romanian ribbon! Also, if he did it for one ribbon, why did he not do for the Italian ribbon then too? i've NEVER heard of a soldier breaking off a ribbon on a bar!! what do you guys think? http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=376505
VtwinVince Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Patrick, that is a little odd. If what he's saying is correct, then the Afrika medal on the end should have been cut off as well in 1943.
101combatvet Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Why? Can you explain? Patrick, that is a little odd. If what he's saying is correct, then the Afrika medal on the end should have been cut off as well in 1943.
paddywhack Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Why? Can you explain? well if you look to the very end of the sales thread the seller states that the Romanian ribbon at the end was taken off when Romanian changed side, Italy did this in 43 so by rights that ribbon should be gone to!!!
VtwinVince Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Correct, and I don't buy this explanation. The Germans were notorious for wearing feldspanges with not-in-fashion ribbons. My uncle wore one until 1945 with the Afrika ribbon on it.
Kev in Deva Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I only know of the famous "Fuhrer Order" regarding Italian awards, I have never heard anything about Romanians awards being ordered to be removed. Kevin in Deva.
