The full maker mark "P.Meybauer, Berlin" on this zinc piece shows that it was most likely produced quite early-on during the change over from tombak to zinc as most zinc pieces by this maker show only the maker's initials, "PM" Nice find!

I think the hinge might have been resoldered on or otherwise replaced, I have never see that type of hingepin on a Meybauer before. At first I thought maybe just the hingepin was replaced, but the dark solder and scratches around the hinge suggest the entire hinge might be a replacement or at least reattached. A few angled shots of the hinge area will tell us for sure. Tom

A lot of these badges will be found with flathead hinge pins, but seeing that this one looks to be domed.....well worth the check. A pretty poor photo of another flat-head hinge pin on a PM Obs.
Tim B Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Well, the good news is I found one of my 3.5 discs with the old raw photos. I had a 2nd one with the case in detail, but that one is gone. I think these will do for now but, I eventually will need to reshoot this one as the PICS just don't do the badge justice; just too much glare to really see the finite details. Enjoy! Tim B Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 A closer look at the eagle; has a lot of details as the condition is near mint (really mint) but I think the original lacquer is still there and reflects a lot of light in the photos. Still, these have ugly beaks IMO. Tim
