Short Description of Combat Feat or Accomplishments

The Division’s units were in desperate need for ammunition resupply on 5 November 1956. Senior Technical Lieutenant Kosarev received the mission to take ten submachinegunners and four vehicles to the artillery depot and return with 122mm howitzer ammunition. While en route, Comrade Kosarev was engaged in a vehicular ambush by two machineguns and approximately 30 submachinegunners. Comrade Kosarev ordered his personnel to dismount and fought for five hours. Subsequently he summoned assistance from neighboring units and was able to break the ambush. As a result of his steadfastness and proper conduct of the battle, Comrade Kosarev cleared the road for vehicular passage and as a result, permitted uninterrupted ammunition supply.

Conclusion: For displaying boldness and endurance in the accomplishment of a combat mission, Comrade Kosarev is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.

Signed Commander, 128 Guards Motorized Rifle Division, Guards Colonel Gorbunov on 20 November 1956

Endorsed Commander, Special Corps, General-Lieutenant Lashchenko on 29 November 1956

:jumping: Our first sighting of a combat award for crushing the Hungarian national uprising of 1956!!!! :jumping::jumping::jumping:

Fantastic luck there, since so many numbers on either side are all (so far) long services.

And that is what his MMM was for, from his service dates and the Ukaz awarding it-- simply his 10 years service award.

By amazing coincidence, for a Hungarian street-level view of what this Red Star was earned doing, please see:
