Douglas Jr. Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi everybody! A friend of mine (a newbie collector) recently bought this EKII. After receive the cross he raised some questions mainly because there is a strange "paint" mark in one of the frame's arms. We all know that this is a bad sign, however the rest of the cross looks pretty nice. I'm in doubt about this case and would like to hear your opnions: was it repainted or not? Thanks in advance! Douglas

Alex K Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 ... Hi I think the cross is fine. with regards to re-painted cores, there is strong evidence (Posted on another forum) that some wartime manufacturers did actually "Touch up" finished EK's themselves. If it has been re-painted post war, which is what I guess you are suggesting then in my opinion it was done quite a while back. Is there any makers mark on the suspension ring? regards Alex K
Douglas Jr. Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 Alex, Thanks for your reply. Yes, his main concern is if the cross was repainted after the war... Here are the pictures showing the painted area in the frame. Douglas
Alex K Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Hi, from the photo's difficult to tell, is it by any chance just natural patinal on the neusilber frames? Once again if it has been repainted it was a long time ago judging by the slight rust coming through. To me it looks like a totally original example, nothing I would lose sleep over if it were mine. regards Alex
Harrier Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Alex is right. There was a very interesting thread posted very recently on WAF in which actual production guidelines were published. These showed an actual step in the process where, after assembly, a "masking" template was placed over the frame and the core was re-sprayed to improve appearance. Certainly such a process could easily lead to a very small degree of "overspray" onto the interior bottom edges of the frame. I wouldn't worry about your cross.
ogfm Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Hi, i don`t think that this cross has a repainted core. Some makers painted their crosses after they were put together. If this core is repainted, it was very very well done !!!!
ogfm Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 BTW, this cross was made by the unknown maker PKZ 75.
Douglas Jr. Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks to all of you who provided your valuable opinions! I really appreciated that. Wishes, Douglas.
