Officer with gorget and awards - identification ?

A nice portrait so far, but I have no idea about him:

The photo was made in Kassel by Hofphotograph Langhammer.

The quality looks past 1918, maybe in the late 20ties.

do my eyes deceive me or does that gorget have a large gem affixed to it's center?

The Crown Prince is wearing the uniform of Kürassier-Regiment Königin (Pommersches) Nr. 2 of which he had been à la suite since 22 October 1905. The gorget has a red enamel centre surmounted by a black eagle.
