I am relatively new to the world of medal collecting, so forgive me if this is in the wrong forum.

I have no idea what this medal is and am seeking information, please help

It appears to be a commemorative piece for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Bavarian Kriegerbund, a veteran's group. The ribbon is not correct. It is correct for either the Prussian 1870/71 campaign medal or the Hindenburg Cross for WWI service.

Seeing the medal has the dates 1874 - 1924 the owner / seller / collector might have added the ribbon with a connection to the 1870 - 71 war with France, probably because its the nearest war ribbon to the founding of the Veterans Bund, which no doubt initially had many veterans from that war.

You are absolutely correct regarding this piece. This is a medal that was for display on flags of the BKB. It was originally suspended from an half blue and half white ribbon.
