Eric Stahlhut Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 my mother found this in her basement. she thought it was something i acquired as a teen, but i've never seen it before. we are assuming it belonged to my my father or his brothers
mametz Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 any opinions? Looks like a SA buckle regards Mametz
Eric Stahlhut Posted October 4, 2009 Author Posted October 4, 2009 Looks like a SA buckle regards Mametz you are correct-- however, it's the smaller size for youths.... 37.5 mm tall, 53.5 mm wide
lach470 Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Yes....it is a smaller type buckle that is identical to SA buckles (except for the difference in size). These were used by the NSDAP Jugend - precursor to the Hitler Youth. I have a couple examples. You can always tell these apart from the missing "ears" on the back of the prong bar. The larger buckles have the ears bent over, whereas these small ones don't. Thanks for showing your example. Nice find. Here is a pic of my two for the sake of reference and another pic of the small example beside a regular SA buckle. Cheers! Rob

all1knew Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hello there, Why is the construction quality so low on the one that started the forum? I would have passed it off as a reproduction at first glance. William Kramer
lach470 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 The construction is correct on the first buckle shown - perhaps it's poor storage that brought about its appearance? Hard to tell...but it's somewhat salty. Rob
