I have an engraved Iron Cross to Oblt Hans Von Sommerfeld with this date engraved on it. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers Glenn. Cheers Glenn. 09.08.–16.09.1916 Stellungskämpfe in Flandern und Artois (east of Arras) Around the 16. September 1916 the IR27 was transferred from the 7. Division to the 211. Division that was formed at Tournai. On September 20 1916 the new 211. Division with IR27 was deployed in the region of Monchy to build defensive works. "Die Feuertaufe erhalten wir am 26. 9. 1916 bei Monchy, im Nordflügel der bereits langsam verklingenden Somme-Schlacht, nördl. Bapaume, unweit von Arras." Major Erhard Sommerbrodt of 211. März 1917 Nach dem genialen strategischen Rückmarsch hierauf im Frühjahr 1917 in die "Siegfried-Stellung" von Arras bis zum "chemin des dames" mit nur leichteren Nachhutgefechten wird unserer 211. Division der ehrenvolle Auftrag, sich im Brennpunkt der zu erwartenden Kämpfe, bei Laffaux, zum hartnäckigsten Widerstand bereit zu stellen. Die gesamte Westfront verläuft von der Nordsee bis Laffaux in nördlicher Richtung. Hier schwenkt sie nach Osten zum "chemin des dames". Laffaux liegt mithin genau im Scheitelpunkt der ganzen Westfront. April 1917 Am Karfreitag, am 6. April 1917 beginnt die erwartete große Doppelschlacht an der Aisne und in der Champagne, und tobt auch bei Laffaux in unverminderter Stärke bis zum 18.
