Paul L Murphy Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Assistant Commissioner Deuputy Commissioner Commissioner of the RCMP
Paul L Murphy Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Loads more still to add but that's enough for today, my fingers are getting tired of typing !
Mervyn Mitton Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Paul - do you think they will notice all the empty cases in the museum ? Seriously, an incredible collection that is so very complete. You could take years to put this all together and still not have rare items like the Commissioner's outfit. You have put a lot of work into posting all of this - however, I think it is a very worthwhile effort. For GMIC this will be the post to consult for RCMP. (How do we get this post 'pinned' ? Leigh denies responsibility for Police - I vote him-in...)
Craig Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Stunning collection keep it coming. Mervyn I have pinned as requested Craig
Mervyn Mitton Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Thankyou Craig - that was very kind of you. I really do think this will become a well visited post.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 I agree that I was pretty lucky to be able to get such a large collection all at once. It took the previous owner many years to put it together. I was in the right place at the right time (with the right items to swap). Up next we have a few items that are not strictly RCMP but they are related. First up is a WWII era Canadian Provest Corps cap badge. This came with the corresponding shoulder title. Many of the early members of this unit were from the RCMP. I also managed to get one of the WWII era Canada shoulder tabs.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Next up some very scarce badges, the official RCMP ID badges. This is the only badge that shows the number of the policeman in question and is not normally available to collectors. This is a version for Inspectors.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 (edited) Next up some cap badges. This is the plain anodised cap badge used post 1953. I managed to get a few of these from different makers such as Gaunt and Scully. The one shown is made by Scully. Next up some photos to show the progression of the cap badge design. The first badge is the 1974 design. This was changed in 1978 when they added red enamel paint to the crown and made some other minor design changes. The third badge is from 1979 onwards and shows some die variances, especially around the shape of the bison head in the centre. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688084786.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688085747.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688086814.jpg Edited February 24, 2010 by Paul L Murphy
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 This is an impressive cap badge, it is an Officer's cap badge (ie Inspector and above) from the 1970s. This is a beret badge for the Veteran's Association This is a King's Crown version of the cap badge. Not sure if this is an original strike or a restrike made for veterans (there were a couple of official restrikes made). The metal makes me think it is a restrike since it is similar to the metal used in the 1974 badge.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 This is an earlier pattern of King's Crown cap badge. This is maker marked by Gaunt but I am not sure if it is a restrike or an original striking. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688156926.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688159847.jpg
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Here are two different original King's Crown collar badges. They are a different die stike so not a matching pair. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688174496.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688175877.jpg
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 I also got a couple of sets of post 1953 anodised collar badges made by Gaunt and Scully. This pair is the pair made by Scully.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 (edited) Next we have some examples of the metal shoulder title. The RCMP R are for reservists in the 1950s. These are followed by brass RCMP titles from the 1950s, a few sets of metal titles from the 1960s to 1968, and finally a bilingual shoulder title which has been used from the 1968 onwards. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688239956.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688241142.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-12668824255.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126688243633.jpg Edited March 6, 2010 by Paul L Murphy

Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Continuing with the collection, here are a selection of rank badges that were worn on the shirt collar until 1990. Since 1990 they wear slip on shoulder straps with the rank. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696638235.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696639153.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696640046.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696641024.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696641965.jpg Edited March 6, 2010 by Paul L Murphy
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This is a 1990s dated shirt for a constable's service dress uniform. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696687795.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696688821.jpg
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) Here is a constable's outerwear jacket, similar to a parka style jacket and fleece lined. This is undated so not sure of the exact time period, however the shoulder badges are the 1976 pattern. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696695316.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696696158.jpg Edited February 24, 2010 by Paul L Murphy
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Some bilingual appointment badges from the 1980s-90s. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696730009.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696731046.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696732299.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126696733283.jpg
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This is a shoulder title which I believe is from the early 1950s.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This is the 1976 pattern bilingual shoulder badge.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This is the 1964 pattern shoulder badge for provincial and municipal auxiliary police.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This is the 1971 pattern cap badge for wear by civilian chauffeurs in the RCMP.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Next up, a whole bunch of 1970 pattern bilingual shoulder badges.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 This smaller sized shoulder patch was introduced in 1974 for female members and was later also used on baseball style caps.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 These are the recent shoulder patch worn since the 1990s. The Transport version of the badge
