Chris Boonzaier Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I saw a pic today (will try to scan it) of what I think was a divisional staff. One officer had a badge on his right upper arm. it looks like a black oval with silver border, in the middle the number 46 or 48.... Does anyone have an idea? Thanks Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 About that, but just with the number. best Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Hi have to find the photo, will get it up asap. best Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 OK here is what I think must be a divisional staff..... or higher? Lotsa officers....
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Here you see a guy with the "48" badge...
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 In this case the guy who I assume to be 2ic has the badge as well.. behind the guy I assume to be the big cheese is a guy who has right sleeve badge... and what looks to be a left sleev one as well... then a guy with a left sleeve badge next to him...
Ulsterman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 when is that picture- @ 1921? They look Reichsheer.
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 when is that picture- @ 1921? They look Reichsheer. Hi, no idea.... I thought late 1918...
Ulsterman Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 See Knotels' arm badge chart-pp. 165 of Wooleys' Freikorps book. I think it's a "W" and that stands for Wallmstr. Esp. with the collar lintzen.
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Hi, guy in post 2 has a very definite "48", guy in post 3 looks indeed like a "W" but close examination shows he was moving as the shutter went down and it is in fact an unreadable blur. With a wot of imagination he to has a "48", but I dont think a "W".... best Chris
Chip Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Look at the cuff lace of the guy on the far right. This is insignia from 1920. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Hi, I thought he was navy with 3 rings and a little loop on top? Best Chris
Ulsterman Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 It HAS to be 1920-21. Who was in IR 48 that year?
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 It HAS to be 1920-21. Who was in IR 48 that year? Hi, Can live with thhose dates, I know little about uniforms. Did RW have regimental arm badges? is it possible that this is a wehrkreis staff? seems to be all kinds of uniforms. What I find interesting is all the EKs... and little else... these guys must have been loaded with tin!!!
Chip Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Chris, Here are some rank insignia 1919-1920 from "Zur Geschichte der Nachrichten=Truppe 1899-1924" by Oberlt.Thiele.
Ulsterman Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi, Can live with those dates, I know little about uniforms. Did RW have regimental arm badges? yes-and waffenfarbe and letters denoted units and assignments , "B" for example was "Beamter". Is it possible that this is a wehrkreis staff? seems to be all kinds of uniforms. That's what i kind of surmised-either that or some sor tof conference. What I find interesting is all the EKs... and little else... these guys must have been loaded with tin!!! Yeah-too bad there's no ribbon or medal bars. Anything on the back?
