KDVR Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Hello friends Opinion about this medal needed. In my opinion it's a copy. Thank you! KDVR
Mervyn Mitton Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 The ribbon is for the Imperial General Service Medal - 1877-78-79.
peter monahan Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 The ribbon is for the Imperial General Service Medal - 1877-78-79. I think you mean the African General Service Medal, Mervyn.
Guest Darrell Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 (edited) Looks like someone took a fake Military Medal disc and attached it to a fake Crimea type suspension .... and as mentioned used a AGSM ribbon ... Edited March 21, 2010 by Darrell
leigh kitchen Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 The disc & suspender look like a one piece, but the disc is tilted round to one side - any chance t's a genuine disc attached to the suspender? Any naming around the edge of the disc?
censlenov Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 What is the diameter of the disc? I want to see if what i've heard is true about this type of copy. Cheers Chris
Mervyn Mitton Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Peter - I think you will find the Africa GS has the same colouring and stripes - however, the two thin inner stripes are green. Mervyn
Graham Stewart Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 The disc & suspender look like a one piece, but the disc is tilted round to one side - any chance t's a genuine disc attached to the suspender? Any naming around the edge of the disc? My thoughts too - a gash repair to the geuine item???
paul wood Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 My thoughts too - a gash repair to the geuine item??? The disc is as wrong as you can get if the Royal mint had produced as cruddy a portrait of George V as that they would have been sent to the Tower and shot. Paul
Tony Farrell Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 It's a French-manufactured piece. Not a genuine MM, and not a copy in the modern sense per se, but rather a contemporary item. You sometimes find DCMs as well. This seems to be in very good condition. Incorrect ribbon though.
leigh kitchen Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Figures, it reminded me of French produced Brtish medals I've seen but only as miniatures (I have a couple somewhere, Crimea period).
