France Napoleonic Test Medal? #1

Hello. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2010/post-3713-126963621626.jpgI recently purchased a breast star that has the appearance of being French Napoleonic - based principally on the EAGLE in the center. The star appears to be a test strike. Has anyone ever seen this before? Can anyone tell me its original? And most importantly, is this Napoleon-related? Thanks. Linas

You could have posted them one after the other in the same thread. Offhand, I'd say that this is some sort of theatrical prop bearing a faint resemblance to the breast star of the Légion d'Honneur. The doorknob washer would have been highly polished to catch the light on-stage and reflect it towards the audience.

I am sorry to write that this item has nothing to do with any known French Imperial (Napoleon I or Napoleon III) award. PK is quite right.

Depending, of course, on what it was supposed to be when it was offered for sale.

It may be, of course, that it is a totally unpublished item....
