Tom Y Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 While TR isn't my cuppa, I do have a '39 repeat bar for continuity's sake. I hadn't thought too much about it until I saw Paul's offering in the Sale Room and decided to give mine a butcher's. I dug it out of its nest among a flock of 1914's for comparison and discovered that there are considerable differences in the design, although it has the concave plinth. Could one or more of you TR types comment on: 1) its authenticity, 2) period of manufacture, and 3) possible maker I don't want to take the ribbon off for a scan, but with some judicious bending and bunching the back appears to be blank.
Wood Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 (edited) Well Tom, I've just spent about 5 hours off and on trying to match Pauls. The best source seems to be the Wehrmacht Awards forum. Use the search function and type in Spange 1st pattern and go from there. I certainly looks like an OK one I have looked at today. Edited June 30, 2010 by wood
Wood Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Boerger, I saw this name? on WA. Was it a manufacturer? Pete
Tom Y Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks, guys. I didn't have much doubt about the originality, just the type. Jim, can I get Freis with that?
all1knew Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Hello there, That is one beautiful first pattern Spange...........if it is ever for sale... William Kramer
PKeating Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Of course, none of these 1st pattern Bars would have had an LDO code as they were quickly superseded by the revised 2nd type. PK
