joerg Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 A friend of mine recently bought several militaria - along with other items a pistol (see picture). It is probably a .22 caliber and has a patentee-mark on the left side of the barrel. The barrel ist stamped on top: ' ARMY & NAVY . C . L . S . LONDON . ' Does anybody exactly know what it is ? Thanks for Your help. Joerg
coldstream Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 The stamp 'Army and Navy cls' refers to the famous outfitters which supplied uniform, equipment and in this case firearms based in London. Bearing in mind it's calibre I would imagine that it is a private purchase firearm accquired for recreational use, ie target shooting, vermin shooting. At a push I suppose it could be for personal protection but it seems at best a cumbersome handgun for that purpose. Bes regards Simon
coldstream Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Gun list Just found this on the net and it appears that for a price any gun sold by the Army and Navy stores can be traced. Not cheap at £23 but it would answer all your questions. Best regards Simon
Mervyn Mitton Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I would agree with you Simon. Looks like a target pistol with length of barrel. I hadn't realised the records were still available.
jimhallam Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 It is a TRANTER patent target pistol --- probably made by the Tranter BROTHERS rather tha William Tranter's company. Probably .22rf -- -but MIGHT be in .297/.230 Morris if it is centrefire. I have seen them in .320c.f. as well. (Guess who collects Tranters!)
