I am in the process of renovating a WWl LE .303.

I have obtained an authentic pull through and plastic oil bottle but I am having a problem finding a sling.I think I may have to make one. Therfore can anyone let me know the dimensions. Also where can I obtain the real cotton webbing all I can seem to find is polypropylene or nylon which is not authentic.

Also what was the original finnish for the wooden stock.

    Regards.

    Hello swl,

The correct oil bottle for a No. 1 MK III Enfield should be brass, the weight on the pull through is brass too. I think plastic oilers were first used with the SLR.

The sling as far as I can remember is the same as those found on SLRs but with brass fittings. I think the newer SLR slings had green painted aluminium fittings. Old slings can usually be found easily on ebay or at least they were in the past. Some slings are dated and have a crows foot, many don't.

The original finish was and is boiled linseed oil. I have an original web sling if you are still in need of one.

    Hello SWL,

The brass oil bottle like the one Kev has shown above can be purchased on eBay without a lot of money being spent. That's where I got mine, too bad I sold my Lee Enfield collection years ago. Ah, lots of regrets.

    Regards

The one pictured in my posts above is currently being cleaned up,

its after spending over 7 years in storage in Castlebar in Ireland

in my brothers attic and was delivered to me here in Transylvania

    a few weeks ago.

Little does my brother Anthony who drove it all the way from

Ireland to Transylvania, know he will be getting it back as a Christmas present

to accompany his .303, now if I only could locate that spare .303 Brass butt-stock.

I actually think i may have a spare brass butt-plate let me take a look. I love Enfield .303's and have 3 myself 2 fully restored and one i use for hunting (just brought down 3 deer with it this month). Excellent rifles.

    Cheers

swl - I make a point of not mentioning the shop on the forum - however, we have two oil bottles for a .303. One has the spoon - the other may have had it removed to store other items. I have them at Rands 225 each (22 pounds or, US$34) Sorry to put this on the forum but can't send pictures by IM. No charge for air/reg. IM if any interest.
