Beau Newman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 This just showed up. They were included in a larger lot of ribbon bars. A matching set of sew-on ribbon bar and lapel ribbons. Other than the order of precedence for the Long Service ribbon, they are identical.
M Hunter Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 A great little group Beau especially with the marked Godet lapel bow. I had seen these on eBay and was tempted to bid. Best wishes Matt
saschaw Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Me too, nice set! The actual difference is the precedence of the Austrian medal, indication pre- and post-"Anschluss" 1938! Which makes perfectely sense. Wasn't there more in the lot that belonged to the group, or am I mistaken?
IrishGunner Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Simply a perfect group. Congratulations on a great win.
Beau Newman Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 Wasn't there more in the lot that belonged to the group, or am I mistaken? There was. The items that were obviously not related to these two are now listed on ebay. There was another sew-on bar with a Zahringen ribbon that does not appear to be related.
saschaw Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Beau, I think that other Zähringer bar might well belong to these - as an upper row of a two row set. It apparetnly post-dates this bar due to the KVK.
Beau Newman Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 That's possible but, 3 of the 4 ribbons on the 2nd bar also appear on the bar pictured. It has the 1914 EK, 1939 War Service Cross w/swords, Zahr. w/swords and the HC w/swords. Is it likely that the same recipient may have had simplified set made without the foreign and long service awards?
saschaw Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Unlikely he missed them out. As said, and based on it being a wide ribbon bar with 20 mm ribbons(?), I think that is the upper row of a two row set, means the lower bar with long service award and the three foreigners is unfortunately missing.
