Chris Boonzaier Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Unfortunately Pionier Friedrich Kämpfe seems to have been issued a new Pass along the way, but this is his original pass...

Chris Boonzaier Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Trained then posted to the FW regiment... and there he must have got a new pass as this one was almost full by then..
Thomas W Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Sometime after June of 1916 about 500 infantrymen were transferred into the flamethrower regiment to fill the ranks of the 3rd Battalion. In late 1916 the light trench mortar was designated a weapon of the infantry, since the pioneer arm couldn't provide enough men to serve as trench-mortar troops. It could be that the pioneer arm couldn't provide enough men to serve as flamethrower troops, either. Judging by the date Kämpfe went into the 2nd Guard Pioneer Replacement Battalion, he may have been one of those 500 infantrymen recruited as flamethrower pioneers.
Naxos Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Flammenwerfer-Pionier from Jäger-(Sturm)-Bataillon 3 The man was drafted in 1917 to 2. Ersatzkompanie 2.Garde-Pionier-Ersatz-Btl. In April 1918 he was transferred to Fammenwerferzug Jägerbataillon 3 (also mentioned as "Flammenwerfertrupp Jägerbataillon 3"). With this unit he took part in an engagement (Gefecht) on July 3rd 1918 at St.Albert (near Saint Menges north of Sedan). This Pionier remained with Flammenwerfertrupp, Jäger-Btl.3 until the end of the war. After demobilisation on Nov. 20, 1918 he was transferred back to the 2.Garde-Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon. Then on Feb. 1, 1919 he was again transferred to Dragoner Regiment 7 in Tangermünde. Edited August 28, 2012 by Naxos
