As it is extremely rare, I would like to show you my tombak unmarked u-boat badge attributed to Boerger & Co., Berlin - Beco.

It still has just incredible amount of gilding left compared to few other known examples.

Is the catch actually silver in color like ssome Schwerin models or has the finish just worn away?

The catch is gold in color but the finish has worn away to some extent as you've noticed.
