SICHERHEITSDIENTS Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 The cap badge is post W.W.2. Rich A. in Pa. yes i knew this but exactly do you know what year is used aprox and why this different blue colour on the crown badge?
Gordon Craig Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 SICHERHEITSDIENST, I suspect that the crown has been added to make the cap appear to be war time or before. Hence the difference in colour and the sloppy sewing job to attach the crown to the cap. Since the House of Savoy did not rule in Italy following the war, members of the family were even denied entry into Italy until 2002, there should be no crown on the cap badge. Regards, Gordon
Elmar Lang Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Hello, the crown on top of the badge is the "Roman Mural Crown", adopted by the Italian Republic, instead of Savoy's Royal one. This rank is indicated by the gilt cord and is to a "Capitano di Corvetta" (equivalent to the rank of Major). During the kingdom, the rank on visor caps was sewn or embroidered around the cap's "cylinder". The firm of Coruzzolo, Naples, is one of the best known suppliers to the Iatlian Navy. Shape and badges can date the cap to the mid '70s of 20th Century. Best wishes, Elmar Lang
Gordon Craig Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Elmar, Interesting comments. I didn't know that the Italian Republic adopted the Mural crown in 1946. I looked up the Roamn Mural Crown and it made very interesting reading. Regards, Gordon
