Peter BL Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Hi......Would appreciate some opinions on this Kriegsmarine Kapitan zur See officer's visor cap. I understand from the dealer that this one has mixed reviews and with his permission am posting it up for discussion. Thanks in advance....Peter
Gordon Williamson Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 It would be interesting to know what the cap band stiffener is made from. In general however, it does not look very promising to me. That cross hatched effect # to the underside of the peak is generally indicative of postwar manufacture and as the peak does not appear to have been messed with or removed/replaced it casts doubt over the cap as a whole.
Harrier Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 The chinstrap is incorrect and the embroidered oakleaves (to me, at least) appear to be set back too far from the edging of the visor. The insignia looks fine, but the tubular attachment strip along the edge of the sweatband looks, from the photo, to be vinyl. I would guess, at this point, that it is Bundesmarine.
Peter BL Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 Cheers guys....To the dealers credit, he did warn me this Visor was contentious but he stood by it. Shame, I was hoping it would be a good one. Thanks for the help....Peter

Bob Lyons Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yeah, a US based dealer, he has had that one up for sale for quite a while... Bob
