The question is: why did he go almost half of the earth to Soerakarta just to visit Pakoe Boewono X??

Not sure, but there were of course close ties between the Dutch Royal House and the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg (the Dutch prince-consort, prince Henry, Queen Wilhelmina's husband, of course hailed from Mecklenburg). In any event, it surely is a beautiful picture you have there. Would it be possible to post a close up of the Duke?
