AlecH Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Picked up this unknown General's portrait postcard. Do members know who he may be. The reverse is blank, only in small print, printers name and address Sonthofen -Oberstdorf. However Sonthofen was the garrison town of 99th Gebirgsjäger Regt. perhaps a Gebirgsjäger General. I'm only guessing. All information welcome. Regards
freiherr Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 III/GebRgt 99 was stationed at Sonthofen. Good chance he was related to Gebirgstruppe. Second ribbon from left Bavarian MV?. Third from left definitely an östterr MV, tapferskeitsmedaille or Signum Laudis m KD on Kriegsband. None of the 1 Geb Div generals. I tried some of the Truppenübungsplatz Kmdr in Wehrkreis VII but come up empty-handed. Too young for Hans FrHr v Riedel Abt Leiter b WEI München whom I have never seen before. Cheers Freiherr
Lukasz Gaszewski Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 #3 is definitely the östterr MVK. Signum Laudis was generally not awarded to non-Austro-Hungarian military, also the wreath was used with MVK only. I suppose #5 could be the Bavarian Order of St. Michael. It is worn after the Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges, so it is most probably a civilian award. Perhaps this will help a little.
