    WW1 Croix de Guerre with Wound Badge (Apparently)

    Hi there

    I picked this up the other day. The wound badge is joined to the ribbon with a piece of wire, rather crudely, I suspect this was put there well afterwards.

    My questions are;

    Is the badge original?? if so where can I get some info??

    Any information about this medal would be gratefully recieved

    The Years on the reverse of the medal are 1914- 1916

    I don't believe that "wound badge" is anything official. That is one which was issued by a fraternal/social group for wounded veterans (mutilated combattants). It was not authorised for attachment to the CdG officially. Thus, I agree with you that it was added later. There actually are several monthly reviews (magazines) published by the Union des mutilés, which are available (in French) on the Bibliotheque Nationale site. I have not looked at them, but you might find out more about the badge if you did. Doc

    HI there

    Thanks for the info and confirmation. To be honest I actually quite like the medal with the badge attached
