Thomas W Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) This is a weird one. The men in the photo are from several different units. Infantry shoulder straps show 229, 253, and 315. There's a field artillery strap with "8" and a "MW 89" strap. The man in front with the high boots has "12" on his shoulder straps, and the soldier to the right of him has a Bavarian cockade. In the back is a pipe-smoking soldier with glasses and a Württemberg cockade on an artillery or pioneer cap, and standing on the far right is a Romanian prisoner. The Austrian soldiers are from unidentified units. Edited October 20, 2011 by Thomas W

Thomas W Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 So, in English: "I send you the best greetings and communicate to you that I am since 10th of the month in the homeland in the collective(?) hospital St. Ottilien in Upper Bavaria, in the hope that my card finds you in the best of health, I remain your Vizefeldwebel Jörg _________" Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.
The Prussian Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Hello! Vereinslazerett. There were 85 Vereinslazarett-Züge. This hospitals recieved their equipment and were run by civilian organisations or the communes where they used to be.

Or was this photo taken in Romania but sent from Upper Bavaria?
The Prussian Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I´m not quite sure, but I think those Vereinslazerette were in the operations-areas too.
