Musashi Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Dear Sirs, I'm new to the forum, interested in Japanese militaria. Recently I obtained what I think is Administrative personnel of military police in the rank equal to colonel. But it has unusual color sash and trouser-stripe which seems to be between blue and green. May I ask you to help me and identify the certain service of its' owner? Thank you in advance! P.S. Don't pay attention to the hat - it's from different set as this one I got without any hat.
Musashi Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 I believe it's Administrative official because his shoulder-plates, sleeves and collar embroidery is double color: gold and silver And I believe it's military police because the color of sleeve-ends and collar is blackm and as we know from Ritta Nakanishi book "Imperial Japanese uniforms 1930-1945" black color is for military police.
Paul L Murphy Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It is a uniform for an administrative official in the army as you guessed. However it is nothing to do with military police. All admin officials wore this type of uniform with the black on the cuffs and collar, irrespective of the army of service to which they were attached. These are harder to find than the army officer dress uniforms but are generally not as popular with collectors.
Musashi Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Dear Paul, thank you very much. So it can be an accountant or a doctor? How about the sash color? Mine is between blue and green, but I saw also pure-blue and what I think was brown. What shall it mean? Is there any good reading materials in English for reference, except for Nakanishi? Best regards, Dmitry
Musashi Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 And by the way does the trouser-stripe color tell anything, or was it used among all services of Administrative officials? Thanks!
Paul L Murphy Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Not sure on the significance of the different stripe and sash colours for the officials. There is no good information on this in English that I am aware of. I need to dig into my Japanese references and see if they shed any light on it.
Musashi Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Thanks again! By the way, do you know what year does this uniform belong to? Again, according to Nakanishi I always thought that's model of 1930, but at your pictures here I saw the same uniform of earlier period, 1910 for example...
Musashi Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Like here http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/24646-photos-of-japanese-medals-being-worn/page__hl__%20administrative%20%20official__st__20 (post 37) it says year 1910...
Musashi Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Ups sorry, I meant post #31, photo taken in Germany
Paul L Murphy Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 These were used from the post Russo Japanese period onwards. There are very slight changes, especially in the collars and the shako, over the years but the dress uniform stayed pretty similar for quite a while.
Musashi Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Thanks That's my last acqusition - infantry warrant-officer
Musashi Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 I'd like to add a hat to the first set shown, can I use regular colonel hat or does it has to be with silver star at the top instead of standard gold? If yes, it would be quite hard to obtain...
Dieter3 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 All right though - you need the appropriate footwear to complete the ensemble! Any luck of that?
Musashi Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Haha, I'm sorry for the socks Nope, so fare didn't see any original officer shoes, will search for them
JapanX Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Keep it up! Hope you'll complete ensemble. Cheers, Nick
