Dieter3 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Here's a nice example of a complete piece; medal, lapel button, case, case wrapper, cardboard box, mini explanatory document. These aren't exactly rare, but this one has a neat addition of being marked on the inside of the lid - Independent Infantry, 122nd Battalion. I've seen several of these as well as the campaign medals with writing, attributing these to various military branches, certainly fun to collect!
JapanX Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nice full set! I believe this one is from 1980 anniversary vintage. Congrats!
Dieter3 Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Close! 1979! (Show 54) - Not sure though when it was actually given out. I'd imagine there were many, many ceremonies for these over a span of several years????
JapanX Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) This type was issued by right-wing patriotic organization in late 70s - early 80s. The main reason for creation of this vintage - 35 anniversary of Pacific War. I think that no less than 100 000 and no more than 1 000 000 pieces were issued. Not very precise estimates ... Edited November 28, 2011 by JapanX
Ulsterman Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Really? I had no idea they were reissued. :o
JapanX Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 And not once! At least four big issues between early 70s and late 80s! Any medal you see on the market - 99,99999% probability that it is post war replica. Cheers, Nick
Dieter3 Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Nick, do you know more about the specific instances of each issuance, circumstances, details, anything?
JapanX Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Only your type could be identified more or less precisely. Other most common "green ribbon" class of after-war replicas we couldn't dated precisely. That is if there are no insets inside the box or inscriptions on the medal itself. I thought about making another classification ...
