Bundesrepublik help with id of 57er pab

im sure we have all heard of Ludwig bauer (last recipent of the Rk in the 9th panzer batt) im wondering on his bundeswehr photo he is wearing a PAB with one of the numbered amounts at the bottom does anyone know what the number actually reads as on his ww2 photo its just a bog standard! and then he gets a higher one
