    Died: 14th Dec 1939 (KIA)

     

    Highest rank reached: Possibly posthumous promotion to Kapitän z.See with seniority backdated to 1st Sept 1939.

     

    Flottillenchef Geleitflottille and Kommandeur F-9

     

    F-9 was sunk on 14th December 1939 by HMS/M Ursula while escorting the damaged light cruisers Nürnberg & Leipzig off Heligoland. The latter cruiser was the intended target.
