Mark C Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I bought this photograph labeled as "New Guinea" and presumed it would be British, but lo and behold! Unless you have Thomas Morlang's book Askari und Fitafita you aren't likely to see many pictures of these types. I've posted this photo on my webpage at http://marksrussianmilitaryhistory.info/GermanPhotos/NewGuinea/NewGuinea.html (And no, I do not know why someone is in the water with his hat on. Prussian discipline, I suppose.)
Chris Dale Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Great photo Mark, thanks very much for posting it! This was the uniform they wore in cold weather- http://s400910952.websitehome.co.uk/germancolonialuniforms/new%20guinea%20police.htm Cheers Chris
Claudius Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 "wore in cold weather"...in New Guinea! -that just seemed funny to me. Thank you for showing.
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The guy they are looking for has just popped up from under the jetty!!
Chris Dale Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 "wore in cold weather"...in New Guinea! -that just seemed funny to me. Yeah, maybe I should have said "relatively cold weather"! I don't think those little vests would help with European or American proper cold weather... Cheers Chris
Claudius Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Yeah, maybe I should have said "relatively cold weather"! Cheers Chris No, No. That's ok. You are right. It is their cold weather. When you have 80F degree summers and then when the themometer drops to 70F, your wife is going to call out; "Wear your long-sleeve shirt today Dear. It's nippy outside."
Chris Dale Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I love the idea of their wives telling them what to wear each day! Like in Dad's Army when Pike's mum always tells him to wear a scarf to prevent croup!
piekenier Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I see the one wears a mens buckle with Imperial Crown ? and the other a plain Askari type buckle which looks wider (in height)?
