rakkasan Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Hello, This badge is a recent purchase of mine and I'm trying to get further background information. Judging from the lettering and colors it should be the third type of the badge issued. I'd say it dates from the 70's or 80's can anyone confirm this? I haven't been able to find anything in my resources that states when the third type was issued. I was also wondering if this was a badge that was awarded to members of the division in later years or was it only for the members who actually fought in Lenino and Berlin. Any input would be welcome.
speedytop Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Hi rakkasan, http://en.wikipedia....fantry_Division Uwe
IrishGunner Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 At least 70s or 80s. But in my honest opinion, this is a late 90s piece or even a reproduction. This type proliferates at the Warsaw flea market. The 1. Warsaw Mechanized Division was an active unit and used the same insignia until 2011. Despite it being a Red Army Division, the post-communist Polish Army kept the lineage of this famous division.
Aahauge Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Hello Rakkasan. The badge looks genuine - low quality as used in late 1970s / 1980s. There's a least 3 official versions + a few sub-versions. The one u got has a screwplate from the National Mint, which was the maker for ages. I'm writing books on Polish medals and badges, and if you still need further information, I can check my files. Best regards Aahauge
