Dieter3 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) Got this one from a regular eBay seller week before last. There were a few nice looking 7th class awards that had better gold plating than this one, but I really wanted the mint marked piece. Rosette happened to be hallmarked as well. Other than the somewhat faded gold plating, it's not bad. I hate photographing these though, they are too dang reflective! Edited September 2, 2012 by Nick
JapanX Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Nice! Like these marked with M kites And very interesting marked rosette! Of course rosettes, boxes and ribbons weren't manufactured by Mint... Interesting thing - in case of red cross medals I often observe that medal mark and rosette mark are coincide
Dieter3 Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 The Red Cross rosettes and medals I believe should coincide with their marks, with some exceptions being certain later medals that have unmarked rosettes, and orders since they are unmarked. Or so my observations lead me to believe! Observation also leads me to believe that "SU" marked rosettes are from the very late 20's to early 30's. I wonder though who made these?
JapanX Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Wait till tomorrow - I'll show you something ;)
JapanX Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 7th class kite marked with M from my collection
JapanX Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 The rossete is unmarked. Interesting that early Showa pieces that bear M mark have slighly different elaboration of the kite and thin M mark.
JapanX Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Now let`s go back to this interesting paired anomaly - orders with M have rosettes marked with "SU" 7th class rising sun order marked with M
JapanX Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Another singular coincidence? Nope, because I have in my collection this 8th class rising sun marked with M and with rosette marked with "SU"
