JapanX Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Nick, are you aware of anyone faking the Preussichs-Eylau Cross of 1807?
Jaybo Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Thanks Nick. I assume that the faking is largely done in Russia, correct? Are the fakes cast copies or are the original dies still out there? It is a fascinating though depressing black market in action out there.
JapanX Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Don`t know where the original dies are. As for the fakes - they made all kinda stuff here. Casting, stamped - you name it
Jaybo Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Hi Nick, Are they making fakes of the original Saint George's Cross of 1807? If so, can one buy them as a copy and not get ripped off? I realize that this is a stupid question......Thanks.
paul wood Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I have only seen very poor copies that would not fool a delirium tremens affected blind man. however who knows what the future holds Paul

Since the cost of buying an original is beyond my means, I was interested to see if good quality copies of the 1807 Saint George's Cross were being made. My Napoleonic collection is comprised of original pieces except for 2 medals (1813 EK 1st Class and the Novodel Preussichs-Eylau Cross as I mentioned above.

But Nick, have you seen any 1807 St. Georges out there in Moscow?
