CoinsnBooks Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I just purchased some antique coins. There were a few other things in the box and I would like some help finding out what exactly this medal/necklace is. It's in the shape of a lions head. It looks like it has the Bavarian Coat of Arms (post 1950). However, in the middle of the crest there is a difference. The ribbon/sash is red/yellow/green. The ribbon also has a small medal insert with the inititals TCPC. On the back of the medal says, "Order of Lion". It says Order of Lion in english, not German. Why would this be? Any information on this medal is greatly appreciated. What kind of award is it? Does it have any value? Etc.... I will include a pic of the post 1950 Bavarian Crest of Arms as well. Tried, but couldn't upload. Link to pics of medal:http://photobucket.c...rderoflionmedal
CoinsnBooks Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 In the box of coins I purchased there was also an olympic medal (from the special olympics). Is it possible this medal has something to do with the olympics?
Gordon Craig Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 CoinsnBooks, I don't think that this medal is German. The English writing would rule that out. Although it does appear to have a link to Bavaria the ribbon has colours that do not relate to Bavaria or to the German State. They appear to be red, white and green. Not something that I have seen before. Regards, Gordon
aubagne98 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Hi, well, the middle looks like a bunch of grapes...maybe a medal of a vine association. Michael
