JapanX Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 This piece is currently in the collection of Musée la Légion d'honneur. Very nice early badge ;)
beriwilliams Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 British Field Marshal Earl Kitchener visited Japan in 1909 and was presented with the badge of a Gensui (Marshal) as a souvenir. Some people erroneously state that Kitchener was an honorary Field Marshal in the Imperial Japanese Army.
JapanX Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 ... as a souvenir. Yep, nice little trinket... In memory ... I wonder why? If you are right and he visited Japan in 1909, then this "souveniring" become even more puzzling. He was promoted to Field Marshal only in 1910 and went on a tour of the world (during which he visited Japan? No? Yes?) By the way, he was also a cavalier of Rising Sun Order with Paulownia Leaves. Some people erroneously state that Kitchener was an honorary Field Marshal in the Imperial Japanese Army. "Some people". Sounds mysterious ...
