Bernhard H.Holst Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Hi, Can anyone make out what the text after the name is? Schrader.jpg Hello Dave: This is a guess rather that a reading of mine: " amputierter d. (des) ???" It would perhaps help to see the continuation of the entry. Bernhard H. Holst
Dave Danner Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 Looking at it again, I think it is something like "einquartierter ?. Soldat". Does that make any sense? It is from a census record. I think this page was from a Kaserne, since everyone in the household was a dude in his 20s.
Bernhard H.Holst Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Hello Dave. I believe you are right. Could be barracks or also possibly "Einquartierter d. Soldat. (standes ) or lodged member of the military. It was sometimes usual and entirely lawful to place military personnel with private facilities such as families, taverns and similar for lodging when barracks were not available. Bernhard H.
