Dieter3 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Got this one with document. God only knows if the document is REALLY matched to the award. The seller had several of these up for sale at the same tine, one of them is currently on eBay with a document in two separate auctions. The document came in a tube, but the two halves were clearly mismatched so the original seller may have just mixed and matched medals and documents too. I have yet to photograph the document. Soon. Anyway, here's the medal. Far from perfect, but not bad overall:
JapanX Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Let's play I am thinking 60s... What is the date in doc? P.S. By the way, where is the patina?

JapanX Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Showa 40 something, I think it is 1973 if I remember correctly? I'll check when I photo! Well, ain't it nice? Patina? What patina? a film of oxide formed on the surface of a metal
JapanX Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) And please don't forget about Nomonhan doc! :) Edited March 12, 2013 by JapanX
Dieter3 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Here 'tis! Document# 147,012, awarded September 26th, 1973 to Eiko Yoikazu. At least I think that's the name. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-6375-0-31077200-1363144092.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-6375-0-86705100-1363144095.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2013/post-6375-0-45114400-1363144097.jpg Interesting that the medal has such a blue ribbon, not even close to the real color.
JapanX Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Interesting that the medal has such a blue ribbon, not even close to the real color. Usual story with sacred treasure! Even in official brochures Very nice set!
Dieter3 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Very nice set! Well, if we can even call it a set! I don't how the seller managed to get so many of these medals and documents to sell at the same time. Maybe he had a thing for this award and that's all he collected! But my guess is there were a bunch of docs and awards and they simply got paired any which way. I'm suspect as to whether or not they are indeed a TRUE match
mickey Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 hi dieter nice medal im always amazed at the condition of japanese medals as well as the documents etc that come with them which makes collecting them so interesting i thought id post a pic of my female 8th class i think its got some of nicks patina no award document though
drclaw Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Very nice, gents. These are simply beautiful and true works of art. Congrats! Yes, that blue/green ribbon in the document is quite different to the actual shade. Were there ever examples awarded in that colour?
JapanX Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 i think its got some of nicks patina Nice piece indeed!
JapanX Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Were there ever examples awarded in that colour? Only the modern ones (after 2003) have somewhat similar color (but more intense)
Dieter3 Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 New arrival, late 20's to early 30s, I'm guessing. Overall, the set was quite nice - the medal was tarnished up, but given that everything was in a good state for the age, I decided to hand-polish it.
Dieter3 Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 Here's a bit of a contrast - the lapel rosette that came with this one, and a post-war one:
Dieter3 Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 Why not? If a piece looks overall aged like the ribbon, case, etc., I will tend to leave them be. But if the piece is otherwise in really nice shape, I may choose to polish them to a more visually appealing state. I'm not big into tarnish. Not to mention, now I can put a nice coat of wax on it to prevent any future tarnishing. Some folks lke the toning and tarnishing, and I do when the tarnish is really even, I mean, REALLY even. But this splotchy tarnish? Na....
Dieter3 Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 I'm gonna nick-name (no pun intended.....) you "Patina".......
