I have bought with some austro-hungarian medals also this romanian piece... can someone give me some more informations? ribbon? is it a common medal?

The Defenders of the Independence medal instituted in 1878 for those who supported the army during the War of Independence of 1877-1878. The ribbon was blue with red-yellow-red stripes on edges.

This is scarce medal, only 5,000 awarded around 1878 and not that many survived.

This is scarce medal, only 5,000 awarded around 1878 and not that many survived.

Not so scarce, as it shows up frequently at Collectors Fairs in Romania, but it is hard to find with original ribbon and the original gilt color that all the medals had, there is even modern reproduction ribbon being offered for this one, here in Romania.
