John F. Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 (edited) Is a collar dog for the PWO West Yorkshire Regt? I cannot find reference of this insignia or an example of it anywhere on-line. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John Edited March 31, 2013 by John F.
coldstream Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 John My opinion would be that its some form of sweetheart jewellery item based on the hallmarked back plate which resembles a horseshoe, a well known good luck symbol in the UK. Regards Simon.
theironduke1 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) Hi John: This is a sweetheart badge from the Boer War era. This was the first conflict in which they appeared and nearly all of them included a horseshoe. By the time of the Great War, sweetheart badges tended to be replicas of the regimental badge, often in coloured enamels. Here are three examples for you. Bruce Edited April 1, 2013 by theironduke1
