coldstream Posted April 1, 2013 Share Posted April 1, 2013 John My opinion would be that its some form of sweetheart jewellery item based on the hallmarked back plate which resembles a horseshoe, a well known good luck symbol in the UK. This was the first conflict in which they appeared and nearly all of them included a horseshoe. By the time of the Great War, sweetheart badges tended to be replicas of the regimental badge, often in coloured enamels. Here are three examples for you.
