Is a collar dog for the PWO West Yorkshire Regt? I cannot find reference of this insignia or an example of it anywhere on-line. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John

My opinion would be that its some form of sweetheart jewellery item based on the hallmarked back plate which resembles a horseshoe, a well known good luck symbol in the UK.

    Hi John:

This is a sweetheart badge from the Boer War era. This was the first conflict in which they appeared and nearly all of them included a horseshoe. By the time of the Great War, sweetheart badges tended to be replicas of the regimental badge, often in coloured enamels. Here are three examples for you.
