就我近10多年来见到的访日章，带盒子的、不带盒子的甚至没有绶带的一共也不超过10个。而且都出自日本和美国。

在前几年日本YAHOO首次出现访日章以前，对此章的认识一片空白。中国国内从没有出现过，甚至根本没人知道有这种章的存在。

With or without ribbon this medal is pretty rare - no doubts about that

JC mentions it was unknown in China for many years, and only appears for sale in Japan or the US.

That, together with the strong resemblance to Japanese awards (box, ribbon, etc), suggests it was commissioned, manufactured and issued in Japan during the visit.

Many years ago, a single rusty / damaged specimen was unearthed in China.
