Great Dane Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Hi guys, I have a Danish guy who received this medal, but can anybody tell me what the name of the medal is and what it was awarded for? The text on the back is "Roma Copenaghen Maggio 1966" The guy had a "permission to wear" the medal, so it must be quite official. I don't have the permission paper, so I don't know what the medal was called there. Thanks, /Michael
JBFloyd Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 These are given for state visits, much like the merit medals of various orders. Each visit has its own medal, with the name of the capital and the year.
Elmar Lang Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 They're the Merit Medals for the State Visits of the President of the Italian Republic. As correctly noted by Jeff, the inscription on the reverse bears the name/dates of the presidential visit. All the best, E.L.
Great Dane Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks Elmar, Do you have any similar medals with different reverses? /Michael
Elmar Lang Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 You're welcome, Michael. I don't have other medals of this type (I collect Imperial Austrian Orders & Decorations), but being Italian, I like to be well documented about our own award system. I should check in Mr. Brambilla's work (vol. II), where all the awards of the Italian Republic are listed and described. I think there were at least two more medals, for state visits to South America. Best wishes, E.L.
