Beau Newman
Here is an interesting Commander of the Ernestine House Order with the added dates "1914" and "1918". The cross tests at 14k gold and the weight is 38.1 g. As I understand it, these were awarded to military officers for non-combat achievements. 1918 would be the year of bestowal. I have included a couple of close-ups of the dates. There does not appear to be a standard format for the dates that I can find. Any enlightenment on whether these may simply be later additions would, of course, be appreciated as I haven't seen enough of these to get a good read on it. Any further information on the award itself would also be appreciated.
Guest Rick Research
Can't address real/added on--beyond my experience. I'm rather surprised a real gold one would have been recycled though. In our 2008 "Triple Ernestines" will be found the list of all recipients. There was only 1 Commander-with-Star and 6 Commanders awarded in 1918: 3 to ancient retired officers recalled for war service, 1 each to active/retired-recalled military officials, and 2 to civilians. There shouldn't eb a lot of these floating around. Edited September 4, 2013 by Rick Research
Beau Newman
Thanks - I figured it would be a low number since the number of potential recipients had to be small given the requirements for eligibility.
VtwinVince
Very nice cross, and not common with the dates. I have a commander's cross without dates.
