JapanX Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 And ... he returns with booty before the Sunday Check out this medal (if possible, please repost close-ups of obverse and reverse in our thread ) http://members.shaw.ca/nambuworld/census.htm
utopis Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I have to admit that this one is much closer. Not only has it the raised line on the border but also the collar is stronger pronounced than on the first one. Edited September 19, 2013 by utopis
JapanX Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Interesting that much more rare Korea Census medals have this feature too ;)
JapanX Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 YJ naturally Btw, all other medals from the same seller look perfectly ok.
utopis Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 So we assume that they were acid treated. What else could scorch the metal like this. The only remaining question is why. The only reason that comes to mind is that this was done to remove oxidation from a ground dug piece. But why the gilding and adding of a ribbon? To increase the value at most...
JapanX Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 You see ribbons are another strange "go figure" mystery. Ribbons look like originals (although they look like they also had contact with some kind chemical (?), cleaning liquid (?) ) Interesting, that reverse of boxer bar is not gilded and we see the typical texture of typical bar for typical boxer medal
Gensui Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Ribbons look like originals (although they look like they also had contact with some kind chemical (?), cleaning liquid (?) ) Nick, I have a very good idea, how to check authentizity of ribbons! Yours, "burning master" Chris PS: Honestly, we now that there are possiblities of using washing fluid, which influence structure, haptic etc. of ribbons. E.g. treat cuff titles, until they don't glow under UV-light...

JapanX Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 By the way, here comes this Census that I should posted in the first place
JapanX Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 No acid?! No gold gild?! I don't know about this one mate ...
Gensui Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 No, not bearing any traces of acid or other chemical "weapons", not golden gild. But anyhow, I like it
JapanX Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Hmmm... I don't know. It just like your opinion man ... Any provenance?
Gensui Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 (edited) Hmmm... I don't know. It just like your opinion man ... Any provenance? No, unfortunately not! Any doubts? Edited September 22, 2013 by Gensui
JapanX Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 No traces of acid or gold gild and no provenance ... All we can do now is pray
utopis Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Now that's what I would call truly destroyed. Looks like Dresden '45. What do you think happened to this former beauties. I'd say fire...
