joerg Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I recently bought at a fair in Germany a MBE (1st type) with box of issue. Because of the colour of the medal I wonder if it is really a MBE (just in a worn out - toned - condition) - or is it a OBE ?? Can anybody help ?? Many thanks Joerg
paul wood Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 It is a type 1 pre 1937 civil badge. If silver-gilt OBE, silver MBE, given the lighting impossible to be certain but appears to be an OBEm howver the price difference between the tow is negligible.Paul
kingsman64 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Joerg had a play with your pictures on a calibrated monitor and dialed out the colour cast just to the point were you would still see the gilding on a OBE, there is none. So this is a very nicely toned MBE in its original case of course and still with its investiture pin so never been mounted in a group. Quite possibly awarded to a German government official between the wars? May I be really nosey and ask what it cost you? € I travel frequently to Germany and like to keep an eye on prices of UK awards and decorations. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Paul
