E Williams Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Someone know of the rarity of EKIIs made by Wilm of Berlin? First one I've seen.Ed
E Williams Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Not rare.Thanks......does that maker have a quality rating among EK makers?
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 You know what would be an interesting? If a 1-10 scale was introduced for EK2 makers... i.e. The most comman KO variation and stamp being a 1, the scarcest maker being a 10, and all others on a sliding scale in between....

Chris Boonzaier Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I agree and include the quality. There are slight variations in Quality, but I think which ones are "nicest" are mostly dependant on the collectors personal taste, so it would be hard to work that in... Blitz was collecting stats...

Chris Boonzaier Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Agreed--I got involved in that argument on that other forum. IMHO there was sure to be a difference in Quality. The Army set a standard of quality control for issue crosses, but this is as always a minimum quality that must be reached. There was nothing stopping a company of being "that bit better"... It can mean that company JJ made an effort on the detail of the corps... or they changed their dies rather than continuing producing with worn out dies, or did a nicer thicker ring etc. etc.... All knives cut, but some look better than others....
gregM Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Totally agree with you. Anyone who has held some of these crosses in hand can easily see and feel the difference. But as I found, this is very subjective as some people don't have a sense of humor (or style or taste)
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Check out these two.... and they are from the same company.... can anyone say they are the same quality and keep a straight face? http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/61000-why-y-oh-why/

I believe because of different dies. The fine detail in one that is not in the other shows the difference in die quality. If that is not a possible reason then I put forth one was made in the morning and the other made later in the afternoon, based on the known fact that germans have 5-10 flippys with their lunch. Prost!!!! Edited December 16, 2013 by E Williams
