The Prussian Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hello blueman! It´s not german! Domine Dirige Nos (Oh, Lord, direct us), is the motto of the city of London. I don´t know too much about english units, but probably the 15 indicates the 15th (Service) Bataillon (1st London Welsh) Raised in London on 20.10.1914 5.12.1914 to Llandudno and 128th Brigade, 43rd Division. Subsequent record same as 14th Bataillon, but disbanded in France in 27.2.1918. But this is just a guess...
Mervyn Mitton Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 I would have thought it could also be an early City of London Police helmet plate. The motif is missing above the number - which could be for the Constable.
Dave Wilkinson Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Yes, it is a helmet plate for the City of London Police. It should be painted black and the Divisional letter is missing. This type was worn between 1914 and the early to mid 1970's. It is NOT military. Dave. Edited February 3, 2014 by Dave Wilkinson
