peter monahan Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Apparently there are now massive amounts of "VC" and "NVA" stuff being manufactured in Vietnam and sold off to gullible round eyes. Dats all I knows about it. Always wondered, though, what percentage of the brain dead mouth breathers with Chinese symbols tattooed on their necks are actually advertising soy sauce or wearing the Cantonese equivalent of "Your sister swims after troop ships". Were I a tattooist, especially a Chinese one, the temptation would be well neigh irresistible.
Rogi Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I have to echo the topic above, a lot of fakes are coming out of Vietnam on these types of items. The thing that strikes me odd is the variation in colors, the flag itself looks faded while the "symbol" in the middle is new with vivid colors.Might be some type of homage piece but I doubt it, it just appears fake the quality in the piece just doesn't seem there. Double check with a Vietnamese expert but without touching and feeling it, I'd be extremely careful
Michael Johnson Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Let's consider the cultural aspects. Pillow covers have been sold to soldiers, etc. probably since before the Second War. Also a great favourite for the locals to sell to UN Peacekeepers (I have UNEF and UNFICYP - the latter terribly done - paint not even in register with design.) But post -1974 no Americans around to buy these from the winners. I'm no expert in Vietnamese home decor, but somehow I doubt that throw pillows are in demand, so not local market. That leaves the possibility that these are a current tourist item. Michael
