Just acquired these 2 ribbon bars. Made by Wolf Brown on aluminium (aluminum) mounts with plastic casing over the ribbons.

Top bar: Asiatic Pacific with 3 service stars , WW2 Victory & Philippine Liberation plus 1 service star.

Bottom Bar: Bronze Star & Purple Heart.

I have never seen ribbons covered with plastic before, was there a reason for this or was this something that was unique to the Wolf Brown Co?

Hello! I have a lot of ribbons. And most of the older ones are covered.I dont think that is anything special but a different manufacturers process.

    Cheers!

We saw a few plastic-covered ribbon sets in the Navy in the '60's, but not many, and not for long. Once the Chief saw them, they had a way of disappearing. I suppose the idea was to keep them clean.

You guys have some great looking bars. When I was a cadet in the CAP back in the 1980s, I saw quite a few of the old style ribbons floating around. We called them Cartoon Ribbons because of all of the imagery/pics on them.
